HOOVER, Ala. — Kentucky rifle assistant coach Stacy Underwood has been named the new head coach of the Nebraska rifle team, it was announced on Thursday.

Underwood had been a key member of UK head coach Harry Mullins’ coaching staff in Lexington since 2007, helping lead the Wildcats to their first NCAA Title in program history in 2011. A native of Mission Viejo, Calif., Underwood competed at Nebraska as a collegiate student athlete, serving as a team captain on a third-place Husker finish in the 2004-05 season.

“We are so excited for this next stage of Stacy’s career,” Mullins said. “She has been a tremendous asset to our program for the last five years and she will certainly be missed. We have no doubt that she will make one of the best head coaches in collegiate rifle and will guide Nebraska into an exciting new era. On a personal note, Stacy has been a tremendous friend to me and our student athletes and her work ethic, leadership ability and charisma will make her an amazing head coach.”

Underwood joined the UK staff in 2007 as the first full-time assistant coach in NCAA rifle history after completed a decorated four-year career at Nebraska, where she was a two-time All-America honoree and the 2007 Great American Rifle Senior of the Year.

Underwood helped lead UK to two GARC regular season championships and one GARC Championship title during her five years with the Wildcats. In 2010-11, UK posted an NCAA-record 4700 total team score to win the first national championship in program annals, with Ethan Settlemires claiming the first individual NCAA Title in smallbore in UK history.

Underwood graduated from the University of Nebraska in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in education. She earned her master’s degree in kinesiology and health promotion from Kentucky in 2009.
