LEXINGTON, Ky. – A pair of Kentucky softball players has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Softball Teams it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Junior graduate student Kara Dill and senior Rachel Riley were honored for the second time in their careers with first-team selections to the Division 2 squad.
The 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Softball Teams recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The Academic All-District ® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot.
Dill is a graduate student in Kinesiology with a grade point average of 3.74. The junior from LaGrange, Ohio, has started all 53 games for the Wildcats this season and leads UK with a .374 batting average. Dill is the only player on UK’s roster that has registered a double, triple and home run this season. She has career-high numbers in hits, doubles, RBI and triples
Riley is a Biology major with a 3.87 grade point average who will begin Dental School in the Fall of 2012. UK’s multidimensional captain has started all 53 games as either the starting pitcher or in the designated player slot. She has driven in a team-high 30 RBI and homered seven times. The Bowling Green, Ky., native has career-high numbers in hits, doubles, RBI and runs scored.
The first-team selection is a first for both Riley and Dill after earning second-team honors a season ago. The pair is now eligible for the All-America team ballot which will be announced later this spring.
