LEXINGTON, Ky. – Coming off back-to-back meets in Austin, Texas, and Gainesville, Fla., the Kentucky men’s and women’s track and field teams will now compete much closer to home as they head to Louisville, Ky., for the third annual “Texas Roadhouse” Border Battle “Kentuckiana.” In the four-team, dual-scored meet, the Wildcats and Louisville Cardinals will team up to compete against the Indiana Hoosiers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The meet, which pits team “Hoosier Land” against team “Commonwealth”, will begin at 10:30 a.m. ET with the field events. Running events will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the women’s 5,000-meter.

Kentucky and Louisville defeated Indiana and Notre Dame in the first ever Border Battle “Kentuckiana” in 2010. The men’s side won 103-99, while the women’s side won 100-96. Last year, the “Hoosier Land” defeated the “Commonwealth” 103-96 on the men’s side and 104-96 on the women’s side.

The Wildcats have set several all-time UK top-10 times and marks during the outdoor season. Keilah Tyson ran the fastest 100m dash by a freshman in Kentucky history, recording an 11.52, which is also the third-fastest time in program history. Tyson will be competing in the 200m dash Saturday at 4:20 p.m.

Sophomore Kayla Parker, who at the Bulls Invitational ran the seventh fastest 100m-hurdle time in UK history, will race in the 100m hurdles Saturday at 3:15 p.m., as well compete in the women’s long jump.

Sophomore Julie Nunn, who ran the 10th fastest 400m (55.71) in UK history earlier this season at the Florida Relays, will compete in the 400m dash at 3:30 p.m. along with freshman Angelica Whaley.

Also performing well last week at the Florida Relays was junior Shiara Robinson, who ran a career-best time of 1:00.85 in the 400m hurdles, the seventh-fastest time in UK history. Robinson and freshman Devinn Cartwright will race in the 400m hurdles at 4:10 p.m.

Senior high jumper Terri-Ann Grant cleared the second-highest mark (5-11.25) in school history in the high jump at the Texas Relays. Grant and freshman Joanne Imbert will jump at 2:00 p.m.

Sophomore Andrew Evans and freshman Raymond Dykstra have been two stars for the Kentucky men’s track and field team. Evans threw the seventh-best discus mark (188-10) at the Texas Relays, and the seventh-best mark in the hammer at the Bulls Invitational. Dykstra set a UK freshman record and overall program record at the Texas Relays with a throw of 247-05 in the javelin. Evans is scheduled to compete in either the hammer or discus at 10:30 a.m. Dykstra is not scheduled to compete this weekend.

Another Wildcat who has enjoyed a fantastic year is junior distance runner Luis Orta. The 2012 Southeastern Conference Men’s Runner of the Year, Orta won the 3,000m steeplechase at the Texas Relays and finished fifth last week in the 5,000m run at the Florida Relays.
