UK won the eighth national championship in school history on Monday night. (Chet White, UK Athletics)
NEW ORLEANS — The celebration is on. The streets of New Orleans are unrelentingly echoing with chants of “C-A-T-S, CATS, CATS, CATS!” and I can only imagine the same is going on back home in Lexington.The last two hours have been an absolute whirlwind of trophy presentations, net-cuttings, short bus rides and deafening cheers for the Kentucky’s long-awaited eighth national championship. Eric Lindsey and I are going to do our best to capture the emotion and action during and after UK’s 67-59 victory over Kansas, but we’re only now getting down to business.To tide you over, here’s a video of the scene at the Wildcats’ team hotel, where hundreds of blue-clad fans grinning ear-to-ear awaited their arrival. Darius Miller was carrying the title trophy and showed it off to those in attendance. It’s by no means an Oscar-worthy piece of cinematography, but it gives you an idea of the festive atmosphere on this unforgettable night.’;
