LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky men’s golf team carded a final round score of 298 (+10) on Sunday at the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga., and finished ninth overall with a team score of 6-over-par.

“We struggled today, especially on the greens,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “This team is quite talented tee to green but we simply have to get better with the putter. We will have a good week of short game practice and then head to Charleston, S.C., prepared to play our best.”

Junior Chase Parker led UK Sunday at the Forest Heights Country Club (par 72, 6,962 yards) with an even-par 72. Parker carded two birdies and two bogeys in his round, going out with a 1-over-par 37 before coming in with a 1-under-par 35. Parker finished tied for 31st at 1-over-par, closing out the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 72.

Freshman David Snyder shot a 2-over-par 74 to finish tied for 35th. Snyder shot even-par in each of his opening two rounds. The talented rookie had three birdies, three bogeys and one double-bogey in his final round.

Sophomore Cody Martin led UK this weekend with a 21st-place finish. Martin opened the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 2-under-par before closing with a 3-over-par 75 on Sunday.

Junior Joseph Barr and sophomore Stephen Powers each shot 5-over-par 77s to finish tied for 48th- and 65th-place, respectively.

Freshman Will Bishop, who played this week as an individual, had his best round of the tournament Sunday. After opening the tournament with a 77 and 73, Bishop continued his upswing with a 2-under-par 70 to move into a tie for 42nd. Bishop carded two birdies and a bogey on the front nine and back nine.

Kentucky was joined in the 14-team Schenkel Invitational field by host-school Georgia Southern, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Minnesota, Ole Miss, N.C. State, North Florida, Notre Dame, South Carolina, UAB, Vanderbilt and Virginia.

Alabama won the Schenkel Invitational by 22 strokes, breaking the previous tournament record of 825 (-39) set by Wake Forest in 1986 with a final score of 817 (-47). The Crimson Tide’s first two rounds were the two lowest two team rounds in the tournament’s 33-year history.
