LEXINGTON, Ky. – One week after carding his first top-10 finish of his collegiate career, freshman David Snyder again led the Wildcats on Sunday, shooting a 1-over-par 73 in the first round of the USF Invitational at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club (par 72, 7,153 yards). As a team, Kentucky finished 7-over-par in the first round and sits in a tie for fifth with two rounds to play.

“We played with a lot of heart today,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “The conditions for our tee time were very, very difficult and we were close to having a great round. Hats off to Chase Parker and Joseph Barr for coming back after very slow starts. This team is getting better and I am looking forward to the last 36 holes of this event.”

Snyder continued his hot play of late, leading the Wildcats with a 1-over par 73. Snyder birdied No. 2, a par-5, and the par-4 No. 6 to shoot a 2-under par 34 on the front nine. Bogeys on Nos. 14, 17 and 18 dropped the Somerset, Ky., native to a tie for 15th.

One week ago, Snyder recorded the best round of his young collegiate career, shooting a 4-under-par 68 in the final round of the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate.

Junior Joseph Barr, a junior from Versailles, Ky., made the turn at 4-over par, but rebounded with a 2-under-par 34 on the back nine, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 11th, and back-to-back birdies on Nos. 15 and 16. Barr is tied for 23rd after one round.

Barr wasn’t the only Wildcat to card an eagle on No. 11. Junior Chase Parker made the turn at 2-over-par, and bogeyed No. 10, but responded with an eagle on No. 11 to get back to 1-over-par. Parker finished his day at 2-over-par and sits in a tie for 23rd along with Barr and sophomore Stephen Powers.

Powers recorded 12 pars, two birdies and four bogeys en route to his 2-over-par 74. Powers made the turn at even-par, but bogeyed the 11th and 16th.

Sophomore Cody Martin finished with a 3-over-par 75 and sits in a tie for 35th after the first round. Martin was 2-under-par at the turn, but finished with a 5-over par 41 on the back nine.

Sophomore Matthew Anderson shot a 12-over-par 84 as an individual.

Playing in its second tournament of the spring season, the Wildcats are one of 17 schools competing in the tournament hosted by USF. Joining UK and USF is Arkansas State, UCF, Cincinnati, DePaul, Eastern Michigan, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida State, Georgia, Louisville, Marquette, Middle Tennessee, North Carolina, Troy and Villanova.
