LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky baseball team will play 10 games on television during the 2012 season, including one appearance as the ESPNU Thursday Night SEC Game of the Week, it was announced by the league office and UK IMG Sports on Wednesday.

The Wildcats will be featured 10 times in televised contests during the season, including five home contests to be broadcast live on the UK IMG Sports Network, aired regionally on Fox Sports South. UK home contests with Louisville (April 10; 6:30 p.m. ET), LSU (April 20-21; 6:30 p.m., 2 p.m. ET) and Alabama (May 11-12; 6:30 p.m. ET, 2 p.m. ET) will be aired on FSS by the UK IMG Sports Network.

UK’s first televised contest will be in the Southeastern Conference opener vs. two-time defending NCAA Champion South Carolina at Cliff Hagan Stadium on March 16, set for 7 p.m. ET on CSS. UK will then appear on Fox Sports South on Saturday, March 31 at Georgia in Athens, Ga., with first pitch slated for 4 p.m. ET.

After UK and Florida square off in the ESPNU Thursday Night SEC Game of the Week in the series lidlifter on May 3, the second game of the series at Cliff Hagan Stadium on May 4 will be televised by CSS at 7 p.m. ET.

During the regular-season finale weekend in Starkville, Miss., UK will face Mississippi State in the second game of the series on Friday, May 18, with the game set to be televised on SportsSouth for an 8 p.m. ET first pitch.

The entire 10-team SEC Tournament, played at Regions Park in Hoover, Ala., will also be televised live on CSS, Fox Sports South and ESPN, from May 23-27.

The initial 2012 SEC Baseball television schedule will include 66 broadcasts, with each game of the 2012 SEC Tournament also televised.

SEC schools maintain the rights to air additional games not included in the official SEC package with various television outlets, including official SEC television partners. More than 50-60 additional games are set to be broadcast, bringing the total number of SEC baseball games broadcast in 2012 to 120 games or more. UK’s selections with the UK IMG Sports Network are included in the additional games.

Kentucky opens its 2012 season on Friday, Feb. 17 in Spartanburg, S.C., against Wofford at 4 p.m. ET. The Wildcats lineup is bolstered by the return 2011 first-team All-SEC third baseman Thomas McCarthy and veteran hitters Luke Maile, Michael Williams and J.T. Riddle. On the mound, weekend starters Corey Littrell and Taylor Rogers will anchor the rotation, with relievers Trevor Gott, Alex Phillips and Walter Wijas expected to lead the bullpen.
