LEXINGTON, Ky. — The No. 7 University of Kentucky men’s tennis team has been picked to finish second in the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division by league coaches, the league office announced on Thursday. UK also received three votes to win the overall SEC crown. Georgia was chosen to win the overall SEC crown with seven votes.
UGA was also picked to finish first in the SEC East with 63 points, while UK followed with 62 points. Florida was picked third with 54 points, while Vanderbilt was picked fourth, Tennessee fifth and South Carolina sixth.
In the West, Mississippi State was voted as division champion with 68 points, while Ole Miss (63 points), Auburn (47 points), LSU (36 points), Alabama (26 points) and Arkansas (12 points) complete the west rankings, respectively.
The preseason poll is voted on by the men’s tennis head coach at each institution and is based on a 6-5-4-3-2-1 count in each division. They also vote for the overall champion, with each vote counting as one point.
Last year, Kentucky advanced to the SEC Championship match for only the second time in school history before falling to Florida.
