Team Records and Series Notes

  • Kentucky is 8-0 and North Carolina is 6-2.
  • North Carolina leads the series, 22-13, and UK is 125-62 all-time against teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference.
  • UK returns to action with an away game Saturday, at 5:15 p.m. ET against Indiana. The game will be televised on ESPN.

First Half Notes

  • Kentucky started with the lineup of Marquis Teague, Doron Lamb, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Terrence Jones and Anthony Davis for the seventh-straight game.
  • North Carolina’s hot-shooting in the first half enabled the visitors to jump out to a lead as large as nine behind six made 3-pointers in the half.
  • The Tar Heels shot 48 percent including 67 from behind the arc compared to Kentucky’s 37 percent clip and 28 percent from the 3-point line.
  • Jones was the lone Wildcat to reach double-figures scoring with a team-high 14 points in the opening frame. It marked the third straight game he had reached double-figures by the half-way point.
  • With North Carolina leading 24-20, the Tar Heels’ Tyler Zeller scored eight-straight points to highlight an 8-5 run and stretch the visitor’s lead to 32-25.
  • Kentucky trailed 38-43 at halftime. It marked just the second time this season the Wildcats have trailed at the half.

Second Half Notes

  • Kentucky went on a 7-2 run tie the score at 45 capped off by a three-point play from Anthony Davis with 18 minutes on the clock. North Carolina immediately stopped the run with a 3-pointer at the other end to recapture the lead.
  • UK took the lead at 52-51 with 15:18 to play on a Marquis Teague layup. North Carolina, again answered on the next possession with a 3-pointer from PJ Hairston.
  • Kentucky again grabbed a one-point edge at 61-50 following a Davis’ hook. A Kyle Wiltjer lay-in gave UK its largest advantage at 63-60 to key a 10-2 run over a 2:56 span.
  • KEY RUN: Leading 73-72 and North Carolina driving, freshman Anthony Davis blocked the shot of UNC’s John Henson with :07 seconds left and rebounded his block to seal UK’s win.

  • In its 109th season of basketball, Kentucky is the NCAA’s all-time wins leader with 2,060 wins.
  • The Wildcats extended their home winning streak to 39 games, including the 2009 NIT game at Memorial Coliseum and the last 38 games at Rupp Arena.
  • UK is a perfect 38-0 under Coach John Calipari at Rupp Arena, the longest win streak in venue history.
  • UK owns a 464-60 all-time record in Rupp Arena.

Individual Notes

  • Michael Kidd-Gilchrist led the team in scoring and rebounding with his first career double-double. He charted career highs in points (17) and rebounds (11).
  • Terrence Jones scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

    • Jones has made a 3-pointer in every game he’s attempted one this season.
    • After scoring a career-low six points vs. Old Dominion, Jones has scored in double figures in each of his last five games.
  • Doron Lamb also added 14 points, including 12 in the decisive second half.

    • Nailed both of his 3-pointers in the second half and has nailed multiple treys six times this season.
    • Has reached double-figures in all but one game this season.
  • Darius Miller added 12 points, his third double-figure outing this season.
  • Anthony Davis finished with seven points, nine rebounds and two blocks. His second block with :07 seconds remaining in the game sealed UK’s win.
  • Marquis Teague dished out a team-high four assists. He has recorded at least four assists in four straight games.
