Team Records and Series Notes

  • With the loss, Kentucky is 4-6, 1-5 in the Southeastern Conference and with the win, Vanderbilt improves to 5-5, 2-5 in the SEC.
  • The Wildcats and the Commodores met for the 84th time in school history, with UK leading the series 41-39-4.
  • Vandy’s win snapped a UK streak of two consecutive wins in the series.

  • Kentucky returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Athens, Ga., to face off with No. 14 Georgia, with kickoff set at Sanford Stadium for 12:21 p.m. ET. Scoring Drives

  • Vanderbilt got on the board first. On its only play of the drive after taking possession inside the UK five-yard line, Zac Stacy ran three yards for the touchdown. Vanderbilt 7, UK 0 – 9:00 1st quarter
  • Vandy added to its lead with a second-quarter drive, capitalized by a Jordan Rodgers touchdown pass to Chris Boyd for 14 yards. Key play: 29-yard first-down catch by Jordan Matthews on a third and one from the Vanderbilt 23-yard line. Vanderbilt 14, UK 0 – 8:53 2nd quarter
  • The Commodores stretched its lead with a touchdown drive in the second quarter, with Stacy finishing the drive with an eight-yard scoring rush. Key play: 29-yard catch by Matthews from Rodgers on a first down from the UK 47-yard line. Vanderbilt 21, UK 0 – 3:47 2nd quarter
  • Ryan Fowler added to the VU lead with a 32-yard field goal with 39 seconds remaining in the first half. Key play: 11-yard rush by Rodgers and a UK penalty pushed Vandy from its own 46-yard line to UK’s 28-yard line. Vanderbilt 24, UK 0 – 0:39 2nd quarter
  • Vanderbilt opened the second-half scoring with a 49-yard touchdown pass from Rodgers to Matthews. Vanderbilt 31, UK 0 – 4:05 3rd quarter
  • Kentucky got on the board in the third quarter, as Maxwell Smith completed a 22-yard touchdown pass to Nick Melillo to complete a 79-yard drive. Smith found Matt Roark for the two-point conversion in the back of the end zone. Key play: on fourth and two, Smith hit La’Rod King for a 48-yard catch. Vanderbilt 31, UK 8 – 1:41 3rd quarter
  • Vandy added to its lead in the fourth quarter, as Stacy rushed for a touchdown from 18 yards out . Key play: Rodgers 13-yard pass completion to Matthews. Vanderbilt 38, UK 8 – 6:45 4th quarter.

Individual Notes

  • King hauled in a team-high five catches for 82 yards, including a long of 48 yards, owning a catch in every game this season.
    • King now owns 1,216 receiving yards in his career, the 19th most in UK history, passing Steve Meilinger (1951-53) and Steve Johnson (2006-07).
  • Smith finished 15-for-31 with 179 yards passing and one touchdown, with the freshman making his second career start at quarterback.
  • Roark caught one pass for 10 yards, also rushing for a 16-yard gain on a fake punt in the second half. He also caught the two-point conversion pass.
  • Melillo hauled in the first touchdown catch of his career in the third quarter to get UK on the board, a 22-yard strike.
    • Melillo grabbed four catches for 59 yards and the touchdown, setting a new career high in receptions and yards.
  • Jonathan George’s 17-yard run to end the first quarter marked a new career long for the UK sophomore.
    • George finished with six rushes for 46 yards.
  • Senior Danny Trevathan made seven tackles in the game and now has had at least five tackles in each game this season, totaling 118 on the year and 349 in his career.
    • With 349 career tackles, Trevathan passes Darryl Bishop (1971-73) for 13th on the UK career tackle list.
  • Senior defensive back Randall Burden collected his second interception of the year and the fifth of his career. Burden has 60 combined return yards on his two picks in 2011.
    • Burden made a team-leading nine tackles.
  • Sophomore tight end Anthony Kendrick made his first start of the year and the second of his career.
  • Winston Guy added a team-high tying nine tackles and has now recorded seven or more tackles in eight of UK’s 10 games.
  • Freshman defensive back Eric Dixon recorded his first career sack on a secondary blitz on third down in the first quarter.
  • Freshman linebacker Alvin Dupree and freshman defensive lineman Christian Coleman made their first career starts.
    • Dupree finished with five tackles and one sack, his second career sack.
