TULSA — Kentucky men’s soccer sophomore forward Tyler Riggs has been selected to the 2011 Conference USA All-Academic Team it was announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
A native of Louisville, Ky., Riggs owns a 3.91 GPA as a mechanical engineering major in his sophomore season, only owning one “B” grade during his collegiate career, narrowly missing a 4.0 GPA after receiving an 89-percent in one course.
Riggs paced the Wildcats in scoring as a sophomore, totaling 27 points on 11 goals and five assists. He started 14 of UK’s 20 games, logging 1190 minutes with 41 shots and 29 shots on goal. Riggs teamed with UK striker Matt Lodge to form a dynamic scoring duo, with Riggs finishing the year ranking fourth in points, third in goals and 17th in assists in UK single-season history.
Kentucky finished its 2011 season with a 9-9-2 record and a 2-5-2 mark in conference play. The Wildcats had four players named All-Conference USA on Tuesday, including Riggs, Lodge, defender Marco Bordon and defender Dylan Asher.
