IRVING, Texas — Kentucky men’s soccer standouts Dylan Asher, Marco Bordon, Matt Lodge and Tyler Riggs have earned All-Conference USA postseason accolades in a voting of the league coaches, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
Kentucky standouts Asher, Bordon, Lodge and Riggs were each honored by the league office. Asher was tabbed All-Conference USA second-team as a defender, Lodge and Riggs earned second-team All-Conference USA accolades at forward and Bordon was named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team.
A native of Richardson, Texas, Asher was tabbed second-team on the backline, despite playing in only 13 of UK’s 20 games. A sophomore, Asher tallied three assists during the 2011 season, battling minor injuries during the early portion of the schedule. A 2010 All-Conference USA third-team and C-USA All-Freshman team member, Asher logged 1029 total minutes on the year.
Bordon, a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, was a force for the Wildcats on the backline in his freshman season, playing and starting 18 of UK’s 20 games. A 6-foot-1 defender, Bordon logged 1656 minutes on the year, ranking as the team-leader despite missing two games due to injury. A talented player, Bordon had the ability to push up in attacking situations throughout the year, totaling two assists for a prolific UK offense.
Lodge and Riggs paced UK’s potent offense throughout the year, with the duo earning third-team honors. The first freshman All-America selection in program history in 2009, Lodge led UK with 10 assists, adding seven goals and a team-high 62 shots in 17 of UK’s 19 games. A native of Rossington, England, Lodge’s season was as one of the most dynamic in school history, ranking second in assists, second in shots, 15th in goals and fifth in points (24). Lodge had a three-assist game in 2011, in addition to Riggs, which tied the school record for the most assists in a single game.
A native of Louisville, Ky., Riggs led UK with 27 points in 11 goals and five assists. The forward started 14 of UK’s 19 games and totaled 1190 minutes, firing 41 shots with 29 coming on target. Riggs joined Lodge in rewriting the UK single-season record books, ranking fourth in points, third in goals and 17th in assists. In his three-year career, Lodge has played in 53 games, totaling 17 goals, 15 assists, 137 shots and six game-winning goals. Lodge ranks seventh in UK career history in points, eighth in goals, fifth in assists and fifth in shots.
Kentucky (9-9-2, 2-5-1 C-USA) completed its 2011 season on Friday with a 2-2 double-overtime draw at South Carolina. UK missed the league tournament for the first time in its seven years as a member in the league, with the tie against South Carolina keeping UK from its first back-to-back losing seasons in the history of the program.
