LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team wrapped up the fall season at the Alamo Invitational on Tuesday afternoon in fourth place. The Wildcats finished the three-day event in San Antonio at 19-over-par. Kentucky was led by top-10 finishes from junior Ashleigh Albrecht and sophomore Liz Breed.

In her first event competing in the team lineup, Breed’s eighth-place finish is the first top-10 finish of her career. A sophomore, Breed finished the fall season strong with three birdies on the back nine, and continued her consistent play on the tournament with a 1-over-par 73 in the final round, leaving her 2-over on the tournament.

Albrecht earned her fourth top-10 finish in as many tournaments this season. Her even-par final round helped her jump 13 spots in the standings to finish tied for eighth. Albrecht’s stroke average for the fall was 73.58, a team best.

“I am very proud of Ashleigh and Liz,” said UK head coach Golda Johansson Borst. “Ashleigh has had a great fall and for her to have four top-10 finishes is truly outstanding. Liz had a very impressive showing and I am glad to see her confidence is back.”

Senior Ashlee Rose improved her play in the final round with a 2-over-par 74. Rose led the team with four birdies on the round, finishing tied for 32nd.

Junior Heather Lott would finish 8-over on the tournament after a final round, 7-over-par 79. Lott finished the tournament in a tie for 27th. Junior Betsie Johnson shot an 80 in the third round. As an individual, junior Megan Moir shot an 81 in the final round.

The University of Texas at San Antonio, which hosted the tournament, finished first at 2-over-par (866). Baylor and Texas A&M would round out the top three at 5-over-par and 16-over-par, respectively.

“Despite our struggles today, we hung tough and finished the round and season on a good note,” said coach Borst. “I am proud of the whole group for never giving up and for digging deep.”

Kentucky’s fall season was highlighted by three top-10 team finishes, including a victory at the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational. The Wildcats finished third at the Texas A&M “Mo”Morial, first at the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational, 20th at the Mercedes-Benz SEC/Pac-12 Challenge and fourth at the Alamo Invitational. Over the course of the fall season, Kentucky had eight individual top-10 finishes, highlighted by Albrecht (4), Breed (1), Johnson (1) and Rose (2).

The Wildcats will return for the spring season on Feb. 12 at the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Fla.
