LEXINGTON, Ky. – After earning its 20th victory for the fourth time in seven seasons, the 24th-ranked Kentucky volleyball team is set to host 13th-ranked Florida on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. ET. The match will air live on CWKYT and Fox Sports South with Dave Baker and Kathy DeBoer on the call.
There will be a Halloween costume contest and free candy for kids eighth grade and younger. Fans can also earn free admission with a ticket stub from Saturday’s football game vs. Mississippi State.
UK (20-4, 11-2 SEC) notched a 3-0 sweep of South Carolina on Friday night to remain perfect at home in conference action. Junior Ashley Frazier led the offense for the fifth consecutive match with 14 kills. Sophomore Jessi Greenbergtotaled a career-high 17 digs to help lead the defensive effort.
Florida owns a 17-4 overall record and a 10-2 mark in conference action with the lone losses coming at the hands of Tennessee. UK fell 3-1 to the Gators in the first contest between the teams this year. Kristy Jaeckel paces the offense with 3.57 kills per set, while do-everything Kelly Murphy adds 2.38 kills and 5.96 assists per set.
The match between the Gators and the Wildcats will mark the second meeting of the season between the two squads. Florida prevailed in a 3-1 match in Gainesville in early October.
Despite the first double-double of the season and a career-high kill output from junior Christine Hartmann, the then ranked No. 6 Florida Gators halted Kentucky’s nine-match winning streak with a 3-1 (25-12, 25-19, 23-25, 25-18) victory. Hartmann charted a career-high seven kills and added 37 assists and 10 digs for UK. The double-double was the first of the season for the junior and the ninth of her career.
Florida posted a .417 hitting percentage and racked up 53 kills on the night. UK charted 52 hammers with a .284 hitting clip.
Senior Becky Pavan and sophomore Whitney Billings both charted 13 kills to lead the offensive performance for the Blue and White. The kill effort was a season-high for Billings. Frazier added seven kills and senior Ann Armes posted six. Armes and freshman Lauren O’Connerled the way at the net with a pair of blocks each.
Junior Stephanie Klefotposted 12 digs for the match and was joined in double-figures by Hartmann’s 10.
Kentucky’s Memorial Coliseum will play host to the NCAA Regionals Dec. 9-10. UK is one of four sites selected for Sweet 16 and Elite Eight matchups with one team advancing to the Final Four in San Antonio, Texas, from the Lexington Region.
Opening night matches are scheduled for 5 and 7 p.m. ET. Saturday’s final is set for a 4:30 p.m. ET first serve.
Tickets are now on sale through the UK Ticket Office. All-Session Tickets are reserved for all ages at $14. General Admission tickets for adults are priced at $12 and students or seniors’ general admission is slated for $8.
Single session tickets are priced at $8 for reserved for all ages. General admission for adults is priced at $7, with students and seniors priced at $5. Youth single session tickets are $4.
