BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Kentucky junior setter Christine Hartmann has been named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week after leading the 24th-ranked Wildcats to a pair of tough road victories this weekend. The honor is the first weekly award of the St. Charles, Ill., native’s career.
Hartmann had a weekend to remember in leading UK to wins at Georgia on Friday and a five-set thriller at Auburn on Sunday.
The junior setter notched a double-double effort with 39 assists and 10 digs in a win at Georgia. She helped the Wildcats set a new school record with 20.5 blocks in the win, as she turned back six Bulldog attacks. Hartmann guided four UK players to .300 hitting clips or better in the victory. Furthering UK’s attack, Hartmann posted a career-best four aces in the win.
In the five-set thriller, Hartmann set two career-highs. She passed out a career-best 54 assists and found four different attackers for 13 or more kills. She also notched a career-best eight blocks against the Tigers. She missed out on a near triple-double effort with the 54 dimes, nine digs and the eight rejections. Hartmann’s dispersal of the ball continues to be impressive with five different Wildcat attackers receiving between 21-and-33 swings in the win.
This marks the first such weekly honor of Hartmann’s career and the first Player of the Week award for the Wildcats this season. She becomes the fourth different Wildcat to earn a weekly conference honor this season joining teammates Whitney Billings, Stephanie Klefot and Jackie Napper as other honorees.
