LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team finished the final round of the Mercedes-Benz Southeastern Conference/Pac-12 Challenge in Knoxville, Tenn., on a high note, with a 10-over-par 298. Junior Ashleigh Albrecht finished the day at 1-over par 73, leaving her tied for seventh place at the tournament with a total score of 1-over par 217.
Albrecht’s consistent play led the Wildcats, as she earned her third top-10 finish of the year in just three events. Junior Betsie Johnson had an excellent final round as she sunk four birdies en route to shooting an even-par 72, leaving her at 15-over par through the whole tournament. Johnson’s 72 is her lowest single round on the year.
Junior Heather Lott also continued her improvement on the final day with a one-over par 71. Lott’s 71 marks her best round of the year as she finished the tournament at 15-over par. Senior Ashlee Rose finished the third day at 8-over par (80) after finishing the day with two birdies. Junior Megan Moir finished her final round with an 8-over par 80 as well.
“It was a rough weekend for us. However, our last round showed great promise heading into our last event of the fall,” UK head coach Golda Johansson Borst said. “We obviously struggled in this tough field, but the girls are realizing that they can hang with any team out there.”
SEC foe No. 6 Alabama finished the tournament in first place with a 1-over par 865. No. 1 UCLA trailed Alabama with a final 5-over par 869, and Auburn rounded out the top three. Kentucky finished the tournament 20th at 49-over par (913).
The battle of the conferences was won by the SEC in the third round as their average score was 297.9 to the Pac-12’s 298.2. Winning two out of three rounds, the SEC’s average on the tournament was 896.1 to the Pac-12’s 898.8.
The Cats continue the fall season Oct. 30 at the UTSA Alamo Invitational.
