LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky volleyball team’s road swing will continue at Southeastern Conference foe South Carolina, Sunday at 1:30 p.m. ET.
Senior Becky Pavan enjoyed a good outing at No. 6 Florida Friday with 13 kills on .417 hitting to pace the Wildcat attack. Sophomore Whitney Billings matched the kill output with 13 of her own on a .391 clip.
Junior setter Christine Hartmann charted her first double-double of the season and ninth of her career with 37 assists and 10 digs in UK’s upset bid. Hartmann nearly had a triple-double with a career-high seven kills to aid the Wildcat cause.
Kentucky owns an 11-3 overall record and a 2-1 mark in SEC action after the Gators snapped UK’s nine-match winning streak. South Carolina enters the matchup with a 9-3 overall mark and a 0-2 record in league action after suffering losses on the road at Mississippi State in a five-set thriller and at home to Tennessee Friday night in four frames.
Juliette Thevenin leads the Gamecock attack with 4.00 kills per set as South Carolina charts 14.35 kills per stanza. The defense is equally impressive with a league-leading average of 18.58 digs per set paced by Paige Wheeler’s 4.56 scoops.
Kentucky leads the all-time series with South Carolina with a 25-18 record, however, the squads split the meetings a season ago with both home teams earning the victory.
Kentucky’s Memorial Coliseum will play host to the NCAA Regionals Dec. 9-10. UK is one of four sites selected for Sweet 16 and Elite Eight matchups with one team advancing to the Final Four in San Antonio, Texas, from the Lexington Region. Tickets are on sale now through the UK Ticket Office.
