LEXINGTON, Ky. – After a season-opening win on Friday night vs. Oakland University, the UK women’s soccer team opens up the home portion of the 2011 schedule with a match-up against in-state rival Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. ET.
The Wildcats and Colonels have not met since the 2006 season. The Cats lead the all-time series 2-0-0, outscoring EKU 12-0 overall, including a 7-0 win back in 2006.
The Cats looked impressive in their season-opening victory. UK dominated the game, tallying 20 shots to Oakland’s five, as well as forcing freshman goalkeeper Kayla Price to only have to make one save the entire game.
If UK wins, it would be the third consecutive year that team has started 2-0.
Senior captain Kelsey Hunyadi and freshman Molly Huber will lead the charge for Kentucky on offense. Hunyadi, the Dublin, Ohio native, scored the game-winning goal on Friday night as well as also recording five shots, and two on target.
Huber scored a game-high three points in the match on a goal and an assist. It was the first time since the 2002 season that a freshman led the team in scoring in the season opener.
Freshman keeper Kayla Price will look to continue her shutout play so far this season in her first ever game at the UK Soccer Complex. Price posted 90 shutout minutes in her first career start against Oakland University on Friday night. It was the first time in program history that a true freshman posted a shutout in the season lid lifter.
Eastern Kentucky out of the Ohio Valley Conference lost its opener on Friday night by a count of 5-0 to Louisville.
