LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky divers Greg Ferrucci and Lisa Faulkner both turned in great performances Thursday at the 2011 AT&T Diving Championships in Los Angeles.
Ferrucci, the Southeastern Conference Male Freshman Diver of the Year, competed in the men’s three-meter springboard dive, posting a score of 373.80 in the preliminary round. Ferrucci’s score put him in 11th place and earned him a spot in the semifinals.
In the semifinals, with the preliminary scores erased back to zero, Ferrucci put together a score of 392.45, the eighth best in the round. The high mark was good enough to put him through to the final round of the three-meter springboard, which will take place Saturday.
Also competing in Los Angeles on Thursday at the Spieker Aquatics Center was Faulkner, who competed on the women’s one-meter springboard. Faulkner, who closed out her career with the Wildcats in the spring, posted an impressive score of 268.70 in the preliminaries, making her the top qualifier for the finals.
In the finals, Faulkner recorded a 218.90, placing her in eighth to close out the event.
Ferrucci and sophomore John Fox will compete Friday on the men’s one-meter springboard, with the finals of the one-meter springboard coming later Friday.
NBC Sports, in conjunction with sister network Universal Sports, will broadcast the Saturday and Sunday finals live. The national broadcast begins with one hour of live coverage of the women’s platform final on NBC at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday, followed by an additional two hours of live coverage of the men’s 3-meter final and women’s synchronized 3-meter final on Universal Sports from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
On Sunday, coverage will feature the men’s platform final on NBC from 3-4 p.m., followed by Universal Sports coverage of the women’s 3-meter and men’s synchronized 3-meter final from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
