LEXINGTON, Ky. — One of the more decorated performers in Kentucky men’s soccer history, Jason Griffiths has return to Lexington to serve as the student-assistant coach for the 2011 season, it was announced by UK head coach Ian Collins on Thursday.

Griffiths completed his star-studded career in 2010 with the Wildcats, becoming a pick of the New England Revolution in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft, the first former UK player selected in the MLS SuperDraft. Griffiths played in 10 games with the Revs in 2010, before suffering an injury. Griffiths will be enhancing his academic portfolio while recovering to full health before returning to his professional career.

“It’s great having Griff back,” Collin said. “He will bring a ton of experience with him and will be a great resource for all of our players.”

As a Wildcat, Griffiths formed a captain trio with fellow stars Barry Rice and Dan Williams for his last two years on campus. A 5-foot-11 midfielder, Griffiths played in 64 career games with 34 points, totaling 12 goals and 10 assists in his career, including a stellar 8-of-8 in penalty-kick opportunities in the regular-season. As a senior in 2009, Griffiths tallied three goals and one assist in 17 games.

A native of Bracknell, England, Griffiths will serve a variety of functions for the program, including assisting in on-field coaching, the day-to-day operations of the program and assisting in the coordination and execution of UK’s travel plans.
