LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky men’s golf junior Joseph Barr carded an even-par round of 72 Sunday at Kearney Hill Links in Lexington en route to taking home the Men’s City Golf Championship title by two strokes.

Barr remained consistent in his play throughout the tournament, which is played at four different courses throughout the Lexington area, including Tates Creek, Lakeside, Gary Brewer Jr. Course at Picadome, and Kearney Hill Golf Links. Barr carded back-to-back rounds of 1-under par on Thursday and Friday before finishing with back-to-back rounds of even par on the weekend (71-71-72-72-286).

“This was a really nice performance by Joseph to win the city championship,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “Joseph now joins his brother Cale, who also played at UK, as a winner of this tournament, and that’s a really great honor for them and their family.”

Barr held the fourth lowest stroke average on the team during the 2010-11 season, and earned two top-10 finishes, tied for the most on the team. Barr’s top finish came at the Philadelphia Big 5 Invitational when he came in second place with back-to-back rounds of even par 70.

The Versailles, Ky., native held off future Wildcat Will Bishop to claim the title. Bishop, a Lexington native who attended Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, carded the tournament’s low round Sunday, a 1-under par 71, to finish the tournament at even par and two strokes back of Barr. Bishop claimed the city championship title in 2009.
