TOWSON, Md. – Senior Meagan Aull has been tabbed a second-team Capital One Academic All-America selection it was announced Thursday. The honor is the first of Aull’s career, and the first for UK since 2004.
Aull is a Biology major who possesses a 3.87 grade point average. The senior from Owensboro, Ky., aspires to become a dentist following her playing career.
Athletes are eligible for Academic All-America consideration as a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00 and have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing at her institution.
Aull was named the Southeastern Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year in early May, and is a three-time member of the SEC Academic teams. She is one of 33 players honored on the three squads comprising the Academic All-America selections.
On the field, Aull is easily having the best season of her career in her final campaign. She has set career-highs in batting average (.361), home runs (10), and RBI (37). She is one of four UK players who have charted 10 or more home runs this season en route to helping UK shatter the single-season mark in that category.
None of her long balls were more important than her leadoff shot over the right field wall in the bottom of the seventh inning in UK’s most recent victory over Michigan. With UK trailing by one run, Aull smacked a ball over the right field fence to knot the score and propel Kentucky to a comeback victory and advance the Wildcats to their first NCAA Super Regional appearance slated for this weekend against California.
