University of Kentucky head football coach Joker Phillips and men’s basketball player Josh Harrellson participated in a relief effort for Alabama tornado victims Friday at a Lexington restaurant, Bourbon ‘n’ Toulouse.

Phillips greeted customers and fans who stopped by to make donations.  Afterward he helped load food, bottled water, clothes, diapers, cleaning supplies and other items onto a truck.  Harrellson also greeted fans and signed posters to help raise money.

“Our hearts are with the people of Alabama who have been affected by this tragedy,” Phillips said.  “We have a special bond with the students and staff at our sister institution, the University of Alabama, and we’re glad to help them.”

“I had a great time this afternoon with Coach Phillips, helping to raise money for the people in Alabama,” Harrellson said.  “Coming from the Midwest, I know how devastating these storms can be. I hope and pray that people are able to help out any way they can during this time of need in Tuscaloosa.”

People can participate in the event Friday until 11 p.m. at Bourbon ‘n’ Toulouse, located at 829 Euclid Avenue.  The restaurant is donating 20 percent of the day’s receipts to the American Red Cross.  Financial donations for the Red Cross also are being accepted.  Relief supplies such as food, bottled water and clothing can be donated.  The truckload of supplies will be driven to Tuscaloosa on Saturday.
