LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky men’s golf freshman Stephen Powers continued his strong play this spring by scoring a 1-over-par 71 in the second round to sit tied for sixth heading into the final round of the Southeastern Conference Championships at Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course on Saturday.

Powers (71-71-142) led Kentucky for the second consecutive day, scoring three birdies in the second round. The native of Naperville, Ill., started the day by earning an even-par score on the front nine and was 1-under-par after 11 holes. Powers sits a 2-over-par 142 for the tournament and three strokes behind John Peterson of LSU, who leads all individuals at 1-under-par.  

Sophomore Chase Parker (72-74-146) still sits in the top 30 after a 4-over-par 74 in the second round. The native of Augusta, Ga., did not earn a birdie in the second round, shooting a 2-over-par 37 on both the front and back nine. Parker is 6-over-par 146 for the tournament and in a tie for 26th.

Freshman Cody Martin (76-75-151) and senior Brian Belden (74-77-151) are knotted in 40th place at 11-over-par 151. Martin improved his overall score on day two, carding a 5-over-par 75, while Belden posted a 7-over-par 77. Junior Mads Kristensen (80-79-159) is in 58th place at 19-over-par 159 after a 9-over-par 79 on Saturday.

As a team, Kentucky (293-297-590) is in ninth at 30-over-par 590. No. 6 Florida leads the tournament at 7-over-par 567, while No. 34 Tennessee is second at 13-over-par 573 and No. 2 Alabama is third at 16-over-par 576.

The tournament will continue Sunday with the final round. Kentucky will tee off from hole No. 10 beginning at 8 a.m. ET. Results from all three rounds can be found on GolfStat.com.
