LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 18/20 Kentucky softball team will take a break from Southeastern Conference action and travel to Marshall for a midweek doubleheader, Wednesday, April 13. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. ET.
Kentucky owns a 27-10 overall record with a 16-4 mark in non-conference action on the season. UK captured two wins at Austin Peay a week ago in its last non-league play. In those contests the Wildcats were masterful with Chanda Bell and Rachel Riley throwing perfect games in the two wins. Riley was also terrific at the plate going 4-for-4 and tying a school-record with six RBI in the game.
Junior Brittany Cervantes has been on a roll as of late with five consecutive games with at least one RBI. Cervantes etched her name in the single-season record books with 38 RBI on the season and is one shy of setting a new personal season-best in that category. She leads the squad with a career-high 11 home runs on the season and is now just four shy of setting the career-mark at Kentucky.
Senior Meagan Aull continues to be the epitome of consistency with a hit registered in 25 of UK’s last 28 games. In 12 of those contests she has notched multiple-hit performances.
Marshall owns a 15-22 overall record during the 2011 campaign, which includes three losses to Southeastern Conference opponents in the early stages of the season.
The Herd is paced offensively by Alysia Hively who is batting .292 in 29 games played and 14 starts. Ashley Gue is next with a .275 average and a team-high 18 stolen bases. Rebecca Gamby leads the power-hitting with 10 homers and a team-best 23 RBI. As a team, Marshall totals a .236 batting average with 31 home runs and 109 stolen bases.
In the pitching circle, the Herd is primarily using three pitchers with Natalee Pulver leading the way with 29 appearances on the year. Andi Williamson owns the squad-best 2.94 ERA and 69 strikeouts tossed on the season.
Kentucky leads the overall series between the two squads with a 7-2 all-time mark against the Herd. UK captured the most recent meeting by a 10-4 score on March 1, 2008, during head coach Rachel Lawson’s inaugural season with the Blue and White.
