LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky volleyball team put together an impressive showing in a spring victory at Ohio State on Saturday. The Wildcats swept the Buckeyes in straight sets, and then earned another win during a “friendly” fourth frame of competition.
UK opened the match by taking the first set 25-19. The Blue and White then put together its best performance of the day to take a 2-0 edge with a 25-17 second set win. Kentucky claimed the sweep by a narrow 25-23 score for the win. In the friendly fourth, UK also claimed that set by taking a 25-19 score.
Kentucky’s serving game was masterful, as the Wildcats totaled nine aces on the afternoon.
Junior Ashley Frazier paced the offense with 19 kills. Frazier has now led the Blue and White offensively in consecutive weekends of spring action.
Seniors Ann Armes and Becky Pavan and sophomore Whitney Billings all chipped in with seven kills apiece. Junior Christine Hartmann and sophomore Elizabeth Koberstein directed the offense to the tune of 10.5 assists per set.
Junior Stephanie Klefot led the back-line defensive effort with 20 digs, while the Wildcats recorded nine blocks in the match collectively.
Kentucky will conclude spring action Saturday, April 16 in West Lafayette, Ind. UK will take on 2010 Elite Eight member Purdue and Ball State in a three-team tournament.
