LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky women’s basketball signee Bria Goss of Indianapolis, Ind., has been named the 2011 Indiana Miss Basketball, announced Wednesday by the Indianapolis Star. The award is chosen by the state’s high school coaches and members of the media.
Goss, a 5-foot-10 senior, is listed as the nation’s 17th overall player and the No. 4 guard in the country, according to ESPN HoopGurlz. She averaged an impressive 21.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.6 steals and 3.2 assists per game for the Giants who won 81 straight contests and back-to-back Class 4A state titles before losing in this year’s state tournament. She concluded her prep basketball career with 1,604 points and was named a WBCA and McDonald’s All-American as well as earning Indiana’s Gatorade Player of the Year.
Goss, along with fellow signee Azia Bishop, a 6-3 power forward/center from Start High School in Toledo, Ohio, make up the nation’s No. 12 recruiting class, according to ESPN HoopGurlz. It marks UK Hoops Coach Matthew Mitchell’s second consecutive top-15 recruiting class. She chose the Cats over Maryland, South Carolina, Purdue and Indiana.
