LEXINGTON, Ky. – Freshman Stephen Powers scored a team best 1-over-par 73 in the final round to move 12 spots up the individual leaderboard as the University of Kentucky men’s golf team concluded play at the Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights Golf Club in Statesboro, Ga., on Sunday.

Powers, a native of Naperville, Ill., improved his score for UK in each round, finishing the tournament at 8-over-par 224 and in a tie for 50th. Powers earned seven birdies in the three-day event, including three in the final round Sunday.

Freshman Cody Martin and sophomore Chase Parker finished the tournament in the top 40, with Martin carding a 5-over-par 77 in the final round en route to finishing tied for 32nd at 4-over-par for the tournament. The native of Union, Ky., ended the event with 10 birdies to lead the Kentucky team.  

Parker, a native of Augusta, Ga., shot a 2-over-par 74 in the final round ending in a tie for 40th at 6-over-par 222. Parker had only three birdies on the weekend but led the team in eagles with two, both on par 5s.

Sophomores Seth Blann and Joseph Barr finished the event in 81st and a tie for 82nd, respectively. Blann scored a 7-over-par 79 in the third round to conclude the event at 19-over-par 235, while Barr improved his standing Sunday with a 2-over-par 74 to wrap up the event with a 21-over-par 237.  

Junior Mads Kristensen, who is playing in the tournament as an individual, scored a 7-over-par 73 in the third round. The native of Denmark ends the event in a tie for 63rd at 12-over-par 228.

As a team, the Wildcats finished tied for 13th after scoring a final round mark of 10-over-par 298. Southeastern Conference foe Auburn won the team title over Florida in a one-hole playoff. Bank Vongvanij of Florida won the individual title at 9-under-par.

Kentucky will be in action again next Sunday when it plays in the three-day Hootie a Bulls Bay event in Awendaw, S.C.
