LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team improved its overall team standing by an impressive 14 strokes to move into 14th after day two of the Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights Golf Club in Statesboro, Ga., on Saturday.
For the second consecutive day, freshman Cody Martin paced the Wildcats, scoring a 1-under-par 71 to sit in a tie for 22nd. The native of Union, Ky., earned four birdies in the second round and sits at 1-under-par 143 heading into the third round Sunday.
Sophomores Chase Parker and Seth Blann improved their scores from Friday’s opening round by each scoring a 1-over-par 73. Parker, a native of Augusta, Ga., is four-over-par for the tournament and in a tie for 52nd, while Blann is 12-over-par after the first two rounds and tied for 80th.
Freshman Stephen Powers scored a three-over-par 75 in the second round and is at 7-over-par 151 for the tournament in a tie for 62nd. Sophomore Joseph Barr improved his score in the second round with a 7-over-par 70 and is in 84th with a 12-over-par.
Junior Mads Kristensen, who is playing in the tournament as an individual, scored a 1-over-par 73 in the second round and is tied for 56th after Saturday.
As a team, the Wildcats are 14th after scoring a second round score of score of 4-over-par 292. Southeastern Conference foe Auburn leads the team standings at 13-under-par, while Florida is in second. Bank Vongvanij of Florida is first on the individual leaderboard at 10-under-par.
