LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the second tournament this spring, sophomore Ashleigh Albrecht led the Kentucky women’s golf team with an even-par 72 at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Tournament on Tuesday in New Orleans.

In what Ryan Harrington of Golf Digest ranked as the second best tournament of the women’s spring collegiate golf season, Albrecht played consistent golf with an opening round of 3-over par followed by back-to-back rounds of even par.

Albrecht found trouble early Tuesday, double bogeying No. 15, a par-5 485-yard hole, her fourth hole of the day, but rebounded with a birdie on No. 18 before making the turn. Albrecht fired a 1-under par 35 on the front nine to finish with her round of even par.

“Today was another tough day for us,” UK head coach Golda Johansson Borst said. “A few of our girls got off to a rough start and dug themselves in a hole. They fought, but struggled to make anything happen. This team is still learning and developing; every round and every tournament is another experience for us. I am very proud of Ashleigh and Heather Lott, they stayed calm and played with confidence all day. We will use this for motivation and to help make us stronger.”

Lott, a sophomore from Baton Rouge, La., rebounded with a 1-over par 73 in her final round to finish at 12-over par for the tournament. Junior Ashlee Rose shot a 6-over par 78, sophomore Megan Moir carded a 12-over par 84 and freshman Liz Breed finished with a 14-over par 86.

The road does not get any easier for the Wildcats. Kentucky will play again next weekend on March 11 in the LSU Golf Classic. Harrington said the tournament will be the best of the spring season.
