LEXINGTON, Ky. – Seniors Kayla Sergesketter, Chatham Penrod, and Chip Aplin, juniors Claire Archibald and Matt Russell and sophomore Ramon Walton each swam times that put them in the top-10 all-time in UK history in their respective events on Saturday, day three of the Southeastern Conference Swimming Championships in Gainesville, Fla.

Sergesketter swam the fastest women’s 200 freestyle in UK history, Penrod and Archibald swam the second and fifth fastest women’s 100 backstrokes in UK history, Aplin and Russell swam the fourth and seventh fastest men’s 100 breaststrokes in UK history, and Walton swam the fourth fastest time in the men’s 100 back in UK history.

Sergesketter qualified for the consolation finals of the women’s 200 free with a time of 1:48.07, a career best mark at the time. In the finals however, Sergesketter destroyed that mark and the previous program-best with a time of 1:47.24, 0.83 seconds faster than her preliminary time and .18 seconds faster than the program’s previous best time set by Rachel Komisarz (1:47.42) in 1999. Sergesketter finished the event with a 10th-place overall finish.

Penrod finished in seventh place in the women’s 100 backstroke finals with a time of 53.40, but swam a 53.09 in prelims to qualify for the finals. Penrod, who already holds the two fastest 100 back times in UK history, now owns the top three as her time of 53.09 was just .01 seconds behind the all-time best mark she had set one year ago.

Archibald, who qualified for the women’s 100 back consolation finals, swam a 54.95 in the finals, but a 54.86 in the prelims to earn the fifth fastest time in UK history.

Aplin swam a career-best time in the men’s 100 breast prelims Saturday morning, and then topped himself by .8 seconds to finish in 54.06 and earn the fourth fastest time in UK history, just .05 behind the second fastest time. Aplin finished in seventh place in the men’s 100 breast finals.

Following Aplin in the 100 breast was junior Matt Russell who also swam a lifetime best time and the seventh fastest time in UK history. Russell finished the 100 breast with a time of 55.34 in both the prelims and finals to finish in 13th place overall, and fifth in the consolation finals. Freshman Carlos Sierra also swam a lifetime best in the men’s 100 breast with a time of 56.57.
