LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky women’s tennis team, which opens its season with five of its first six matches on the road, will head north to face No. 7 Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Saturday at noon.
The Wildcats (0-2) are looking to capture their first win of the young season Saturday when they face a tough Michigan squad (3-0) which has won each of its past 17 regular-season dual matches, dating back to the 2010 season.
“Our match against Michigan is very important in terms of rankings and long-term growth,” UK head coach Carlos Drada said. “I am confident in our players’ ability to compete tomorrow. We will give our best effort to prevail and we will become a better team after Saturday’s experience.”
The Cats, led by senior Megan Broderick, hold an 8-3 all-time record against the Wolverines. Freshman Caitlin McGraw had a strong opening weekend for Kentucky, posting a 2-0 singles mark with wins over Minnesota and Marshall. Broderick and sophomore transfer Jessica Stiles also earned singles victories for the Wildcats. Broderick’s win came from the No. 1 singles positions and Stiles’ came from the No. 2 spot.
In doubles play, Broderick and Stiles teamed up to get one win from the No. 1 spot, and the freshman tandem of Khristina Blajkevitch and Cece Witten went 1-0 in the only match they played together at the No. 3 position.
Michigan will have live scoring available for fans and media along with live video from each of the courts. The live scoring and video can be accessed from this link:
