LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky wide receiver Randall Cobb has been named first-team All-America as an all-purpose player by ESPN.com.
Cobb leads the Southeastern Conference in pass receiving with 79 catches for 955 yards and seven touchdowns but his value far exceeds those contributions. He also plays quarterback in the “WildCobb” formation and has rushed for 401 yards and five touchdowns and thrown three TD passes in that role.
The junior from Alcoa, Tenn., returns punts and kickoffs as well, including a punt return for a touchdown this season. Cobb has 2,192 all-purpose yards, ranking second in the nation and breaking the Kentucky single-season record. During the season he broke the UK career record for touchdowns with 37.
Cobb’s versatility as an all-purpose player is underscored by the fact that he is the only player in the nation who ranks first or second on his team in rushing, passing and receiving. He has put points on the board eight different ways this season – rushing, receiving and passing for touchdowns; returning a punt for a TD; throwing for a TD on a fake field goal; and notching two-point conversions by rushing, passing and receiving.
“About the only thing Randall Cobb didn’t do for Kentucky’s offense this season was snap the football to the quarterback,” wrote Mark Schlabach on ESPN.com.
In addition to ESPN.com, The Associated Press and SportsIllustrated.com chose Cobb as first-team All-America as an all-purpose player.
Cobb is also a finalist for the new Paul Hornung Award, which goes to the nation’s most versatile player.
Sideline Seats Available Through UK: Tickets are available to the BBVA Compass Bowl for both season-ticket holders and the general public. Fans are encouraged to buy directly from the Kentucky ticket office, as all tickets from the UK allotment are sideline seats. All tickets are $50 each.

‘Operation Win’ to Benefit Birmingham: To implement the ‘Operation Win’ initiative in the community, Coach Joker Phillips and the Cats plan to sponsor children from elementary schools around Legion Field, as well as Birmingham-area military personnel. Building off the GAMEDAY READY tour that traveled around Kentucky this past summer, the Wildcats hope to give back to the Birmingham community by providing game tickets sponsored by Wildcat fans and supporters.
Fans can participate by:
- Making a 100% tax-deductible contribution to the Operation Win Birmingham Fund
- Contributions can be made in $50 increments – the cost of one BBVA Compass Bowl ticket
- Ticket blocks will be donated to local Birmingham elementary schools and military personnel
- Help provide an opportunity for youth to experience Kentucky football
- Fans can make contributions to the Operation Win Birmingham Fund in addition to purchasing their BBVA Compass Bowl tickets
- Fans will receive three K Fund points for every $100 contribution
- Fans will receive one K Fund point for a $50 contribution
- The Operation Win drive will continue throughout December, as these tickets will be assigned separately from any priority ticket requests
