LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky senior Lauren Rapp has been named to the All-South Region first team it was announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association Tuesday. This marks the first such honor of Rapp’s career as she had previously earned honorable mention accolades in each of the last two seasons.
Rapp is one of 14 players in the region to earn first team honors joining nine total Southeastern Conference players.
“Lauren had a great year for us,” Kentucky coach Craig Skinner said. “She is very humble about individual awards, but this is well deserved. Her play this year had a big impact on the team’s success. We are very happy for her.”
One of the most prolific players in school history Rapp was dynamic in leading the Wildcats to their sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in her final season in Lexington. Rapp was an All-SEC first team honoree and was also tabbed the SEC Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year.
For the season, Rapp led the team with 2.70 kills per set on .293 hitting. She also paced the defensive effort with 1.04 blocks per stanza. For the season she racked up 125 total blocks to cap off her career with four seasons of 100 or more total blocks. Rapp finishes her career second all-time in UK history with 423 blocks assists.
Additionally, Rapp closes out her career with the seventh most kills in a career (1,280), the seventh best career hitting percentage (.298) and the 10th most service aces in school history (107). She appeared in 286 career sets which ties for the third most in school allure.
Following an impressive week for the Wildcats which included an upset of No. 15 LSU, Rapp was named the AVCA National Player of the Week as well as the SEC Player of the Week in mid-November. The Indianapolis native struck for 17 kills and added 10 digs for her 12 career double-double effort and the fifth of the season. She contributed a career-best six assists while also turning back four opponent attacks. In UK’s decisive fifth-set victory, Rapp had five of the team’s 13 kills in the stanza to lead the Wildcats to a 15-11 match-clinching win.
Rapp was a four-time All-SEC player, a three-time All-South Region team member, four-time All-SEC Academic team performer and a three-time CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team selection during her career.
With selection to the first team of the All-South Region, Rapp is now eligible for All-America candidacy which will be announced during the Final Four the week of Dec. 16.
