LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky gymnastics team will hold a tune up the 2011 season with the inaugural “Meet the Team” scrimmage Friday at 7 p.m. ET inside Memorial Coliseum.

Admission is free. Doors to Memorial Coliseum will open at 6 p.m. ET and seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The squad also will be available to sign autographs after the event.

“We can’t believe it is already time for our intra-squad scrimmage,” said assistant coach Heather Hite, who is entering her second season on the Kentucky coaching staff. “The girls are excited and ready to go. We can’t wait to get out in front of a crowd and show what we have been working on all fall. It will be a great time for the girls to get under some pressure and (assistant coach) Chuck Dickerson and I are excited to see how they are going to handle it.”

The scrimmage is the first event of the year for the Wildcats, who return eight lettermen from last year in sophomores Caitlyn Ciokajlo (Brooklyn, Mich.) and Caitlin Satkowiak (Westerville, Ohio), juniors Storey Morris (Tyler, Texas) and Whitney Rose (Frisco, Texas) and seniors Jasmine Minion (Memphis, Tenn.), Andrea Mitchell (Knoxville, Tenn.), Phylicia Reshard (West Chester, Ohio) and Colleen Williams Naperville, Ill.).

The event also will be the first collegiate competition for Kentucky’s seven incoming freshmen, Brittany Canfield (Chicago, Ill), Karissa Carpenter (Indianapolis, Ind.), Holly Cunningham (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Audrey Harrison (Knoxville, Tenn.), Kayla Hartley (Versailles, Ky.), Paige Krall (Centreville, Va.) and Kayla Sienkowski (Frederick, Md.).

The scrimmage will give the team a test in Memorial Coliseum as it prepares for the five regular season home meets in 2011. Kentucky will host five meets this year inside the historic building, including dual meets with Southeastern Conference foes Arkansas, Georgia and LSU. The Wildcats also will hold a four-team meet in March with George Washington, Bowling Green and Bridgeport.

Kentucky’s first meet of the year will be Jan, 8 when it host the 2011 edition of Excite Night, which annually serves as Kentucky’s home opener. Kentucky will host Illinois and Northern Illinois in a tri-meet. Excite Night show begins at 6:30 p.m. ET, while the tri-meet will follow at 7 p.m. ET.
