KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – After playing to a tie against No. 17 Georgia in its first SEC road match of the season, the UK women’s soccer team (6-4-1, 0-2-1 SEC) will close out weekend action against the Tennessee Lady Vols (5-5-1, 2-0-1).

The Wildcats earned their first point of the season on Friday with a 1-1 draw at Georgia. Kelsey Hunyadi netted the UK goal, her sixth of the season.

UK head coach Jon Lipsitz is hoping to get the same hard play that he got from his team on Friday and try to find a way to combat the Lady Vols’ athleticism.

“Everything we’ve seen of Tennessee is that they’re a very, very good tough team,” Lipsitz said. “They’re very difficult to break down and very difficult going forward. The key for us is to focus on ourselves and to play as hard as we did Friday night.

“They’re extremely fit and extremely strong and they really do a great job of covering for one another and doubling down on the ball and all these attributes that we work on also. We’re going to have to find ways to get behind a team that’s difficult to get behind with their athleticism.”

The Wildcats trail in the all-time series with Tennessee 7-11-0. UK has struggled against the Lady Vols of late having dropped nine of the last 11 matches.

Kickoff between the Cats and the Vols is set for 2:00 p.m. Live stats will be available at UKathletics.com.
