LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky men’s tennis team will hit the courts for the first time this fall, playing in the UNLV Invitational this weekend at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas, Nev. The matchups will include only individual singles results, no team scores.
Kentucky will start the three-day tournament against UNLV 4 p.m. ET on Friday followed by a 4 p.m. ET matchup with Pepperdine on Saturday. UK wraps up the tournament Sunday against Fresno State at 1 p.m. ET.
“We are really excited to get things going this year,” said UK head coach Dennis Emery. “We feel that we have a good team and we are anxious to see our freshmen play. Our guys have an incredible work ethic and this format gives us a chance to see them play against top competition.”
UK singles players will square off against tough competition as both Pepperdine and Fresno State finished in the top 30 of the International Tennis Association final rankings last season. UNLV finished the 2010 spring season ranked 64th.
Kentucky enters the fall season with two players listed in the ITA preseason singles rankings and one ranked doubles team. Junior Eric Quigley ranks No. 8 in singles in preseason while fellow junior Alex Musialek is No. 32. Quigley and senior Brad Cox, who advances to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championships last season, starts the fall at No. 8 in doubles.
