DURHAM, N.C. — Kentucky junior catcher Michael Williams has been selected as the fourth-best prospect in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, it was announced by Baseball America.

A native of Knoxville, Tenn., Williams played the summer for the Danbury Westerners in the NECBL. During the summer, Williams batted .265 (43-for-162) with six doubles, four homers and 17 RBI. Williams also pitched in two games, striking out four in 1.1 innings pitched.

A 6-foot-2, 210-pounder, Williams has played in 31 games with 16 starts in his first two years at Kentucky, out of Knoxville powerhouse Farragut Academy. In 53 at bats, Williams has recorded five doubles, one homer and 10 RBI. In 2010, Williams hit .241 (7-for-29) in 16 games and nine starts, charting four doubles, six RBI and a .405 on-base clip.

Baseball America released their top prospects for 18 summer collegiate leagues and Team USA, with the Southeastern Conference placing 22 total players on the listings. Besides utility man Robert Beary out of South Carolina, who can play any position on the field, including catcher, Williams was the only catcher in the SEC on any of the collegiate summer lists.
