Sept. 13, 2010

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky men’s basketball team will team up with God’s Pantry Food Bank in the BackPack Program this week.

The BackPack Program is designed to meet the needs of hungry children at times when other resources are not available, such as weekends and school vacations.

About the BackPack Program:

  • Backpacks are filled with food that children take home on weekends.
  • All of the food is child-friendly, nonperishable, easily consumed and vitamin fortified.
  • Backpacks are discreetly distributed to children on the last day before the weekend or vacation.

The UK men’s basketball team and members of its staff will begin packing the backpacks Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 2 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum. They will deliver the bags Thursday, Sept. 16 from 1-2 p.m. ET to three local schools (Picadome, Lansdowne and Cassidy Elementary Schools).
