WINSTON-SALEM, NC – After a hard fought, come-from-behind win Friday night, the UK women’s soccer team (3-1-0) was unable to mount any offense in a 2-0 loss to No. 14 Wake Forest on Sunday in the ACC/SEC Challenge.

The UK offense was only able to manage three shots, the first of which didn’t come until the 71st minute. On the opposite end, the Wildcats surrendered 21 shots, resulting in two goals allowed and four saves by UK goalie Sydney Hiance.

“We played a tremendous Wake Forest team today,” said UK head coach Jon Lipsitz. “I really liked the way they played; I liked the way they found some openings against us and exploited them. I’m not surprised by how well coached they were and how well they played; we knew exactly what we were up against. When you’re going to play against a team of that level you have to take care of the little details, much better than we did today. We have no excuses, we earned this exact result. I thought it was a fair result for the game. We earned it the same way we earned our victories this year. We’re going to own it rather than make excuses, because that will help us improve and become better for our next game.”

For the second straight match, the Wildcats fell behind, surrendering a goal in the 14th minute. Jackie Logue fired a shot that hit off the bottom of the crossbar and bounced back in to the box. Katie Stengel was there to collect the rebound and poke a shot past Hiance for the 1-0 Wake Forest lead.

Wake threatened to make it 2-0 in the 23rd minute, but a huge save from Hiance bailed the Cats out. Action in the box forced Hiance to come off her line. Stengel wound up with the ball a couple yards from the goal and fired a shot, but Hiance was able to dive back just in time to punch the ball across the endline, thwarting the Demon Deacon opportunity.

Wake did make it a 2-0 affair with 4:05 left in the first half when Alisha Woodson lofted a ball towards the goal from 20 yards out and Marisa Park went up and headed it in for the score.

Taylor Ray nearly cut the Demon Deacon in half in the 88th minute when she fired a shot from 30 yards out over Wake goalie Aubrey Bledsoe, but it deflected off the post and away from the goal.

The Wildcats return to action Thursday, traveling to Louisville to take on in-state rival UL. The game will be televised live on Fox Soccer Channel with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
