LEXINGTON, Ky. — After rallying from behind with a pair of goals from true freshmen in a win at Dayton on Monday night in the first exhibition match of the 2010 season, the Kentucky men’s soccer team will travel to Memphis, Tenn., to face off with storied Brazilian club Botofogo’s under-19 squad, with kickoff at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex set for 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
Kentucky posted a 2-1 win over Dayton in the first exhibition tune-up of the 2010 season on Monday. UK allowed an early goal to the Flyers but got goals from freshmen Tyler Riggs and Ellis Vienne to post the win in the exhibition game played under modified time rules.
The Wildcats are locked in a position battle for the starting goalkeeper position, as all-conference performer and four-year starter Dan Williams has completed his eligibility. UK has four talented keepers competing for the job, including Tyler Beadle, Kevin Corby, John Guadarrama and Joseph Peglow. Beadle registered the start on Monday, with the other three keepers logging time in goal.
UK will play the international friendly with Botofogo on Wednesday, then complete the exhibition season on Friday with a 1 p.m. ET matchup with Marquette at the UK Soccer Complex. Kentucky will open its regular-season on Friday, Sept. 3 with the annual University of Kentucky Invitational, hosting Eastern Illinois at 7:30 p.m. ET.
