**UPDATED** Play has been suspended in the first round due to darkness with UK senior Brian Belden tied for 24th. The first round will resume Tuesday morning at 7 PDT.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky men’s golf senior Brian Belden posted a quality outing of even par in the first round of stroke-play competition at the US Amateur Championship on Monday. The tournament is being played at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash.

Belden qualified for the championship with a score of 10-under-par 134 at the 36-hole qualifying event at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Morehead, Ky. The native of Emmaus, Pa., currently sits in the tied for 24th when play was suspended due to darkness in round one. The first round will resume Tuesday morning at 7 PDT.

The tournament is being played on two separate courses, The Home Course (par 72) and the Chambers Bay Golf Course (par 71). Belden played in the morning session on The Home Course, scoring an even-par score to sit in the top 30 for most of the afternoon.

Belden scored three birdies, 12 pars and three bogeys in the first round, playing the par-5 holes at 2-under-par. Belden will tee off Wednesday in the second round at 12:30 p.m. PDT on the Chambers Bay Course from the 10th tee.  

If Belden continues to play well and finish with one of the top-64 scores, he will advance to the match-play portion of the tournament.
