LEXINGTON, Ky. — Former University of Kentucky men’s golf standout J.B. Holmes wrapped up an incredible day on the course, carding a 10-under-par 60 in the second round to get in contention at the Greenbrier Classic on Saturday. The Professional Golf Association event is being played at the Old White Course in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.

The native of Campbellsville, Ky., entered the third round in a tie for 69th but after the second-lowest round of his career has jumped into a tie for fourth at 12-under-par for the tournament. Holmes lowest round of his career came in the final round of the 2008 Merrill Lynch Shootout, where he scored a 12-under-par 60.

Holmes, a two-time FDR Open Champion, tallied a total of 11 birdies, six pars and one bogey Saturday, making the most dramatic jump up the leaderboard. Holmes scored a 30 on the front and back nine to gather the impressive score. The round of 60 is the lowest round thus far in the inaugural Greenbrier Classic.

The former UK star is six strokes off the lead heading into the final round, trailing Jeff Overton at 18-under-par. D.A. Points is in second at 15-under-par, while Boo Weekley is in third at 13-under-par. Holmes is tied for fourth with Jonathan Byrd and Brendon de Jonge.

Holmes will tee off Sunday afternoon in the second-to-last group at 1:51 p.m. ET with Weekley. Holmes and Weekley were both on the 2008 US Ryder Cup team that helped the Americans defeat the Europeans for the first time since 1999.
