LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Former University of Kentucky women’s golf team member Mallory Blackwelder won the 2010 American Express Kentucky Women’s Open with a 2-under-par 142 (70-72) at Wildwood Country Club (par 72) on Wednesday.


A native of Versailles, Ky., Blackwelder entered the second round in first and was tied atop the leaderboard at 1-over-par entering the final hole. Blackwelder’s tee shot on the par-3 No. 18 landed 10 feet from the hole, and the 2009 graduate took the title with a putt for birdie.

With a 144 (79-68), current Wildcat and junior Ashlee Rose finished the event in fourth. Rose, a native of Nicholasville, Ky., carded the lowest round of the Open with her second-round 4-under-par 68. 



Sara Hurwitch, a 2010 graduate posted a 150 (78-72) to finish tied for sixth. Sophomore Betsie Johnson also finished in the top 15 behind a 14th-place 155 (74-81).

Sophomore Megan Moir carded a 157 (78-79) to finish tied for 19th, while junior Laura McGehee tied for 25th with a 161 (77-84).
