LONDON, Ky. — University of Kentucky golfers James Kania (Haverford, Pa.) and Chase Carpenter (Salyersville, Ky.) each finished with strong showings at the 37th Annual London Country Club Invitational over the Memorial Day Weekend. The three-day, 54-hole event, played at London Country Club (par-71, yardage-6700) featured top amateurs from the region to determine the tournament champion.

Kania (74-68-71-213) who will be a senior in the fall of 2010, finished the three-day event at even par to finish in third place. The Golf Association of Philadelphia Amateur Player of the Year last summer has picked up right where he left off, registering a field best15 birdies on the week. The native of Haverford, Pa., posted a 3-over-par in the opening round followed by a 3-under-par in the second round and a even-par round to close out the tournament.

Carpenter (75-73-66-214) entered the final round at 6-over-par, but played the best round of the entire tournament in the third and final day, posting a 5-under-par 66. Carpenter, who will be a junior in the fall of 2010, started his final round early in the morning, putting pressure on the field with his brilliant play. The native of Salyersville, Ky., finished with a 5-under-par, bogey-free 66 on the day and 1-over-par for the tournament to finish in a tie for fourth.

Bill Sergent (69-67-73-209) won the tournament crown, posting a 2-over-par 73 in the final round to end three strokes better than the field at 4-under-par. Kania finished one stroke out of second place while Carpenter fell one stroke behind Kania for a tie for third.
