IRVING, Texas. — Three University of Kentucky men’s soccer players received the Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal while 14 players have been named to the league honor roll, Commissioner Britton Banowsky recently announced.

Seniors Chad Hagerty and Tim Muessig along with redshirt freshman Patrick Martineau received the Commissioner’s Academic Medal, which is given to a player that achieves a grade point average of 3.75 or higher for the 2009-10 season. All three also made the Commissioner’s Honor Roll for maintaining a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher.

Hagerty, a native of Louisville, Ky., played in 15 games this season for Kentucky with two goals and two assists, posting six points. During his time at Kentucky, Hagerty has gathered four goals, including one a game winner to go with nine assists and 17 total points.

Muessig has been a force defensively for Kentucky, playing in 39 games in his two seasons for the Wildcats. The native of Lexington, Ky., has helped Kentucky have one of the best defenses in the country year in and year out while adding an assist and one point.

Martineau, a native of Kennesaw, Ga., serves as a backup goalkeeper for all-conference selection Dan Williams.

Memphis had the most academic medal winners for the second year in a row with 49, followed closely by Marshall with 48 and Tulsa with 47. The number of medalists honored increased by more than six percent from a year ago and nearly 30 percent more than 2007-08. The Wildcats also placed 14 players on the Conference USA Honor Roll, including Josh Albers, Tyler Burns, Tim Crone, George Davis IV, Shaun Deliberato, Hagerty, Jacob Kemper, Martineau, Muessig, Joseph Peglow, Steven Perinovich, Cameron Reilly, Byron Vega and Thomas Zimmerman.
