LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky volleyball team is set to conclude its spring action with a home tournament Saturday, April 24, at Memorial Coliseum. Craig Skinner’s squad has enjoyed another successful spring campaign and will look to wrap up its four-week slate at home in front of the UK faithful.
Kentucky will host Purdue and Georgia Tech for three best-of-five matches at Memorial Coliseum, Saturday. The matches are free and open to the public.
The first match begins at 9:30 a.m. with UK and Georgia Tech hitting the floor. The Yellow Jackets and Purdue will take to the court beginning at 12:30 p.m. Action concludes with a match between Purdue and the host Wildcats at 3:30 p.m.
“We have had a good spring up to this point,” Skinner said. “Our staff has seen significant improvement from week one back in March, and we have another opportunity to see that development on Saturday. It’s important for us this to see individual improvement as all of our players are getting chances to contribute this spring. Georgia Tech and Purdue are very good programs and we are excited to host this event to finish our spring season.”
UK was last in action at the Kentucky-Indiana Volleyball Academy (KIVA) tournament held in Louisville on April 10. The Wildcats earned three impressive victories over NCAA Tournament teams in Xavier, Ohio State and Cincinnati.
Kentucky defeated Xavier in the opening match of the tournament in straight sets. UK claimed wins of 25-12 and 25-17 against the Lady Musketeers.
In the second match of the day, the Blue and White posted a come-from-behind opening set against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Trailing 24-20, UK rallied back to claim the first set by a 29-27 margin. The Wildcats claimed the match by taking the second set with a 25-20 victory.
To wrap up action at the KIVA Tournament, Kentucky downed Cincinnati in consecutive frames by 25-16 and 25-15 scores.
