LEXINGTON, Ky. — First-year football head coach Joker Phillips will be on hand Friday night for the baseball game with No. 30 Kentucky and No. 7 Florida to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. First pitch at Cliff Hagan Stadium is slated for 7 p.m. ET.
Kentucky (21-12, 4-8 Southeastern Conference) is coming off its best week of the season, posting a series win over No. 19 Alabama and picking up a midweek win over No. 7 Louisville. UK will send junior lefty Logan Darnell (3-2, 4.62 ERA) to the mound Friday night to face off with Florida ace lefty Alex Panteliodis (6-1, 1.99 ERA).
The games this weekend will be broadcast live on the Big Blue Sports Network (radio), with the Voice of UK Baseball, Neil Price, calling the action. Fans in Lexington can hear the games live on WLAP 630-AM and in Louisville on WKJK 1080-AM. The Friday and Saturday contests will be televised by the Big Blue Sports Network, with Dick Gabriel (play-by-play), Ryan Lemond (sideline) and former UK infielder and MLB Gold Glove winner Doug Flynn (color) detailing the action.
Phillips, a native of Franklin, Ky., is in his first season as the football head coach, after serving as an assistant on Rich Brooks’ coaching staff at UK for seven seasons, both as receivers coach and offensive coordinator. Phillips’ first UK team is currently in the midst of spring practice, with the UK Blue/White Spring Game set for April 24 at 1 p.m. ET at Commonwealth Stadium.
