FORT WORTH — Despite a 594 in air rifle from Ashley Jackson and a second-place team finish in air rifle, the Kentucky rifle team finished in fourth place at the conclusion of the 2009-10 NCAA Rifle Champions, with host Texas Christian University claiming the NCAA championship, on Saturday at the TCU Rifle Range.
UK posted a 4640 team score, good for fourth place and 35 points behind champion TCU. Kentucky entered the final day of competition in fourth place after shooting a 2296 score in smallbore Friday. UK rallied to finish in second place in air gun, totaling a 2344.
Individually, UK was led by senior Ashley Jackson, who tallied a team-best 594 in air rifle. Tom Csenge finished with a 586, while sophomore Ethan Settlemires totaled a 585 in air rifle. Sophomore Megan English competed as an individual, finishing 10th overall with a 589 in air rifle. Freshman Katie Fretts rounded out the UK starting lineup Saturday in air rifle with a 579.
Friday, UK (8-3) got a 578 in smallbore from Csenge, with Jackson (574), Settlemires (567) and senior Jen Pason (577) rounding out the Wildcat lineup.
