The Kentucky basketball teams suffered just a minor hit in the polls this week after the first collective down week of the season. The men’s team fell just one spot in both major polls to No. 3 after losing at nationally ranked Tennessee on Saturday. Syracuse, one of only two top-five teams not to lose last week, took over the top spot in both the Associated Press Top 25 and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll for the first time this season. Kansas dropped just one spot to No. 2, followed by Kentucky, Duke and Kansas State. The women suffered their first back-to-back losses of the season at Tennessee and Auburn but tumbled just a few spots in the AP Top 25. The Cats, after ranking as high as No. 16 last week, check in at No. 19 this week.Matthew Mitchell’s squad will begin postseason play Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the second round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament.
The loss hardly affected the men’s status heading into the NCAA Tournament as ESPN analyst Joe Lunardi still has the Cats as No. 1 seed in the East Region.Full rankings below: AP Top 25 (men) 1.
